10 Unhealthiest Frozen Pizzas: A Current Label Check

This audit compares the labels on the ten products named in the original article; the pizzas shown are editorial illustrations, not branded product photos.

Among the eight pizzas from our original list that still have a current official U.S. label online, DiGiorno Three Meat Croissant Crust has the highest calculated sodium total for the whole retail container: 3,900 milligrams. One labeled serving has 780 mg. Tombstone Original 4 Meat follows at a calculated 3,480 mg per pizza, or 870 mg per labeled serving.

This is not a market-wide ranking of every frozen pizza in America, and a whole pizza is not a recommended portion. We revisited the same ten products named here in 2022, checked current manufacturer or official SmartLabel pages on September 21, 2026, and ranked only exact products whose current labels we could verify.

How we compared the pizzas

We ranked the verified products by sodium in the whole package, then used saturated fat and calories as context. That exposes a common comparison mistake: one label may describe a personal pizza as one serving while another divides a larger pie into three, four, or five. The package total makes different sizes easier to compare; the per-serving figure is usually more practical for deciding what to put on a plate.

The FDA Daily Value is 2,300 mg of sodium and 20 g of saturated fat on a 2,000-calorie reference diet. FDA describes 20% Daily Value or more per serving as high. Daily Values are label-reading reference points, not individualized targets, and one product does not determine the quality of an overall diet.

Multi-serving container totals are calculated from the current label and may differ slightly because of rounding. Stouffer’s and CPK publish amount-per-container columns. Always use the package in your freezer for the latest formula, serving count, allergens, and cooking directions.

1. DiGiorno Three Meat Croissant Crust

Why it ranks first: the current DiGiorno label lists about five servings at 780 mg of sodium each. Eating the entire pizza would therefore mean roughly 3,900 mg of sodium, along with 40 g of saturated fat and 1,750 calories. One serving already supplies 34% of the sodium Daily Value and 40% of the saturated-fat Daily Value.

The “croissant” name describes the flaky crust, not a lighter nutrition profile. The useful question is how many fifths of the pie you plan to eat and what else is in the meal.

2. Tombstone Original 4 Meat

Generic four-meat pizza on a baking tray with one quarter separated on a wooden spatula.
The current label divides this style of full-size pizza into four servings; the image is an editorial illustration.

Why it ranks second: Tombstone lists 870 mg of sodium and 8 g of saturated fat per quarter-pizza serving. Multiplied by four, the package reaches about 3,480 mg of sodium and 32 g of saturated fat. The old article said 3,640 mg of sodium, but the current official label supports the lower calculated total.

The meat count alone does not prove a health claim. The evidence is the label: one quarter provides 38% of the sodium Daily Value and 40% of the saturated-fat Daily Value.

3. Tombstone Original Supreme

Supreme pizza with sausage, pepperoni, olives, peppers, and onions cut into four quarters.
Vegetable toppings add variety, but they do not erase sodium and saturated fat elsewhere in the pizza.

Why it ranks third: a quarter pizza has 770 mg of sodium and 7 g of saturated fat. Across four servings, that is roughly 3,080 mg of sodium, 28 g of saturated fat, and 1,400 calories.

Olives, peppers, and onions make Supreme different from a plain meat pizza, but “contains vegetables” is not a verdict. One quarter is at 33% of the sodium Daily Value and 35% of the saturated-fat Daily Value.

4. Red Baron Classic Crust Four Cheese

Four-cheese pizza cut into equal quarters with one slice lifted from a cooling rack.
Meat-free does not automatically mean low in sodium or saturated fat.

Why it ranks fourth: Red Baron lists four servings, each with 710 mg of sodium and 9 g of saturated fat. The full pizza calculates to about 2,840 mg of sodium and 36 g of saturated fat. At 45% of the saturated-fat Daily Value per serving, that nutrient stands out more than sodium.

This also shows why our order is sodium-first rather than an all-purpose health score. Someone comparing products for a different dietary reason may reasonably sort the same facts differently.

5. Red Baron Thin & Crispy Pepperoni

Thin pepperoni pizza divided across three plain plates to illustrate a three-serving package.
A thinner crust changes the texture, but the current label still lists 820 mg of sodium per serving.

Why it ranks fifth: the manufacturer lists three servings. Each has 820 mg of sodium and 10 g of saturated fat, so the full container calculates to about 2,460 mg of sodium and 30 g of saturated fat.

“Thin and crispy” can sound lighter, but crust thickness does not supply the nutrient totals. One labeled third contains 36% of the sodium Daily Value and 50% of the saturated-fat Daily Value.

6. Stouffer’s Three Meat French Bread Pizza

Why it ranks sixth: the package contains two French-bread pizzas and calls one a serving. The label lists 1,100 mg of sodium per pizza—48% of the Daily Value—and 2,210 mg per container. The full package also lists 17 g of saturated fat and 960 calories.

This is the strongest reminder that a smaller-looking format can still carry a large sodium load per eating occasion. If one French-bread pizza is your meal, use the 1,100 mg serving figure; the container total matters only if both pieces are eaten.

7. California Pizza Kitchen BBQ Recipe Chicken

Thin barbecue chicken pizza with red onion and cilantro beside two modest plated slices.
CPK's current label supplies both serving and container columns, avoiding hidden multiplication.

Why it ranks seventh: the current CPK frozen label lists 640 mg of sodium, 5 g of saturated fat, and 290 calories per third. Its container column gives 1,940 mg of sodium, 16 g of saturated fat, and 880 calories for the entire pizza.

The barbecue sauce contributes 9 g of total sugar per serving, including 8 g of added sugar, but sugar is not our sorting rule. Chicken on top does not by itself answer whether this pizza suits your priorities.

8. Celeste Pizza for One, Sausage & Pepperoni

Small sausage-and-pepperoni personal pizza on a single plate beside one place setting.
Because the package is one pizza and one serving, there is no container multiplication.

Why it ranks eighth: Celeste's official SmartLabel, updated April 27, 2025, lists one 5.5-ounce pizza as one serving: 400 calories, 8 g of saturated fat, and 830 mg of sodium. That is 36% of the sodium Daily Value and 40% of the saturated-fat Daily Value.

Its whole-package sodium is lowest among the verified products mainly because the package is much smaller. Per serving, its 830 mg is higher than several larger pizzas here. Package size and serving intensity answer different questions.

Two entries we could not verify as current

The original page also named two products for which we could not find a current manufacturer listing with an exact product page or Nutrition Facts panel. We searched the brands' active U.S. catalogs on September 21, 2026. Absence from a website does not prove nationwide discontinuation, so we are not making that claim—and we are not presenting old figures as current.

Screamin’ Sicilian Brazen Buffalo

The exact Brazen Buffalo label could not be confirmed in the brand's current catalog; this is a generic editorial illustration.

A 2020 Palermo's announcement confirms that Brazen Buffalo existed as a buffalo chicken pie, but the current Screamin' Sicilian catalog did not provide its exact product page or Nutrition Facts. The old article's claim of 1,300 mg of sodium per slice has no current primary label behind it here. If you find the product locally, scan the box and compare its serving size directly.

DiGiorno Bacon Me Crazy

Generic bacon and salami pizza with a cut edge revealing cheese inside the thick crust.
Historical listings are not a substitute for a current manufacturer label; this is an unbranded illustration.

DiGiorno's active catalog did not give us a current page for the exact Bacon Me Crazy pizza. Retail and nutrition databases preserve older labels, but formulas and package weights can change. We removed those old numbers from the current ranking rather than treating archival data as today's product.

How to choose a frozen pizza without getting lost in the numbers

Start with the serving size and servings per container. Decide how much you are realistically likely to eat, then multiply if needed. Use % Daily Value for quick context, compare sodium and saturated fat between similar portions, then consider protein, fiber, added sugar, allergens, price, and what else will be served.

A lower number in one column does not make a product universally better. A personal pizza may have less sodium per package but more per serving; a full-size pie may be easier to split. Our guides to foods worth checking at the dollar store and prepared family meals at Costco use the same practical idea: inspect the unit, the portion, and the current package rather than trusting a headline.

Frequently asked questions

What is the unhealthiest frozen pizza on this list?

Using whole-container sodium as the stated criterion, DiGiorno Three Meat Croissant Crust ranks first among the eight exact products with a current official label. Its five labeled servings total about 3,900 mg of sodium. That does not make it a universal market leader or mean the package is one serving.

Is DiGiorno pizza bad for you?

“Bad for you” is too broad for a brand-wide answer. This Croissant Crust product is high in sodium and saturated fat per serving by FDA's guide, but DiGiorno products and portion sizes differ. Check the exact box and your overall eating pattern.

Should frozen pizza be compared per serving or per pizza?

Use both. Per-serving numbers describe the label's stated portion; whole-pizza totals expose differences in package size and serving count. Your likely portion matters most for a meal.

Can these nutrition numbers change?

Yes. Manufacturers can change formulas, weights, and serving counts. These figures were checked online on September 21, 2026, but the package you buy is the final source for nutrition, allergens, and cooking directions.
